A 40-minute run from our Milltownpass factory straight down the M6. Wright Windows manufactures every uPVC, aluminium, aluclad and R9 Legacy unit in Westmeath and fits across Athlone — from the Connaught-side Victorian terraces to the new builds at Cornamaddy and Lissywollen.

Athlone is split in two by the Shannon — Leinster side in Westmeath, Connaught side in Roscommon — and the housing stock follows the same divide. The Leinster side carries the late-Georgian garrison architecture around Church Street, Custume Place and the barracks (c.1810), plus the 19th-century terraces along Connaught Street and the Left Bank. The Connaught side, expanded westward in the 19th and 20th centuries, mixes Victorian villas with the big modern estates around Cornamaddy, Bonavalley and Monksland just over the border.

Wright Windows has manufactured for the Athlone market since 1969. Our factory in Milltownpass is 50km east — a straight 40-minute run up the M6 — and we serve the whole town and its commuter belt: new builds at Cornamaddy Court, Cornamagh Crescent and the new Plovers Wood scheme at Lissywollen; period refurbishments on the Leinster side; lakeside one-offs around Lough Ree and Coosan; and architect-spec contemporary builds on both sides of the river.

50 km

Milltownpass to Athlone — about 40 minutes via the M6

The Milltownpass factory sits beside the M6 at Junction 5. From the factory it’s a straight motorway run west — Junction 12 for Athlone east, Junction 13 for the bridge crossing and Roscommon side. Easy access for surveys, deliveries and installations.

What We Install in Athlone

Period terraces, new builds and Shannon-side one-offs.

Leinster-side period replacement — R9 Legacy & sliding sash. The late-Georgian and Victorian stock around Church Street, Custume Place and Connaught Street typically needs a window that respects the original sash proportions. Our R9 Legacy composite flush-sash replicates 19th-century timber sightlines at modern U-values, and we supply traditional sliding sash in uPVC, aluclad and timber where the original profile needs to be matched exactly.

New-build aluminium — Cornamaddy, Cornamagh, Lissywollen. The current new-build belt — Cornamaddy Court, Cornamagh Crescent, Dún an Rí at Coosan, and the 576-unit Lissywollen scheme — is being delivered A-rated. We routinely supply large-format aluminium picture windows, tilt & turns and bi-fold or lift-and-slide patio doors for these sites, with U-values down to 0.8 W/m²K.

Connaught-side & Monksland estates — uPVC casement re-windows. A lot of our Athlone work is full-house replacements in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s estates around Bonavalley, Monksland, Willow Park and the western suburbs — typically 10–14 A-rated uPVC casements with a composite or uPVC entrance door, kept weather-tight throughout.

Lough Ree, Coosan and the riverside — aluclad. Properties exposed to weather off the Shannon and Lough Ree benefit from aluclad — aluminium externally, timber-finished internally. We manufacture aluclad to spec from the Milltownpass workshop, with the U-value certs SEAI Registered Contractors need.

Why Athlone Chooses Wright

A 40-minute motorway run from a 1969 manufacturer.

Manufacturer, not reseller

Every Wright window is built at our Milltownpass factory — not imported, not white-labelled from a UK system house. The margin you pay in Athlone is the Westmeath manufacturer margin, not a layered reseller markup.

Our own installation team

The crew who arrive in Cornamaddy, Coosan or Monksland are Wright employees — Austin, Max, Frank, Declan — not subcontracted day-rate fitters. Same people for survey, manufacture and installation.

Period work and conservation experience

The Leinster-side garrison-town stock is heavily protected. We’ve installed R9 Legacy on planning-controlled refurbishments and have the U-value certs, spec sheets and drawings to support a conservation officer submission.

Family-owned since 1969. Donal handles after-sales personally from Milltownpass — not an outsourced call centre, not a Dublin-office middleman.

Athlone FAQ

Common Questions

Do you cover both sides of Athlone — Westmeath and Roscommon?

Yes — the Shannon county boundary doesn’t change anything for us. We cover the Leinster side (Westmeath) and the Connaught side (Roscommon) including Monksland and Bonavalley, plus the surrounding rural townlands and lakeside properties around Lough Ree.

How long is the drive from your factory?

About 40 minutes — the Milltownpass factory is on the M6 at Junction 5, and Athlone is straight west to Junction 12 / 13. Roughly 50km. Same-day surveys are routine.

Do you do conservation or period work in Athlone?

Yes — the Leinster-side garrison-town stock around Church Street and Connaught Street is exactly what our R9 Legacy composite flush-sash was designed for. We supply traditional sliding sash in uPVC, aluclad and timber as well, and provide the U-value certs and drawings for conservation officer applications.

Do you supply Athlone new-build developments?

Yes — we supply uPVC and aluminium for A-rated new build across the country and we’ll quote main contractors or architects directly from spec stage. The Cornamaddy / Lissywollen / Coosan belt is right in our daily delivery radius.

Are your windows SEAI-grant eligible in Athlone?

Yes — our ranges comfortably beat the 1.4 W/m²K SEAI threshold (down to 0.7 W/m²K on triple-glazed uPVC). The grant is paid through an SEAI Registered Contractor; we can supply the U-value certs and spec sheets your contractor needs.
