Timber Windows Ireland

Hardwood and Scandinavian Pine windows, factory‑finished in paint or translucent stain. Triple‑glazed U‑values from 0.84 W/m²K. Built for conservation work, period homes and high‑end new builds.

Timber is the original window material — and for period homes, conservation work and high‑end new builds where the brief calls for natural warmth, it’s still the right answer. A well‑specified hardwood window, factory‑finished and properly glazed, will outlast most of the people who fit it.

Wright Windows manufactures timber windows alongside our uPVC, aluminium and aluclad ranges at our Milltownpass factory in Co. Westmeath. We offer two timber options: a Hardwood range and a Scandinavian Pine range, both factory‑finished in your choice of opaque paint or translucent stain — so they leave us ready to fit, not raw and waiting for site finishing. Triple‑glazed units achieve U‑values as low as 0.84 W/m²K. We supply and install across Dublin, Meath, Westmeath, Kildare, Wicklow, Offaly, Longford, Cavan and Louth. If you’re working on a protected structure or planning‑controlled property, also consider our R9 Legacy composite flush‑sash — engineered to replicate timber proportions with lower maintenance.

Why Timber

Natural warmth that no other material replicates.

Timber has a depth and warmth in the interior that nothing else — not painted aluminium, not foiled uPVC, not aluclad — can match. The grain reads through the finish; the section detail can be specified to match exactly what’s already in a period property; and the timber itself ages with character rather than degrading.

We use two timber species. Our hardwood range is sourced for stability and longevity — ideal for sash windows and heritage replacement work. Our Scandinavian Pine range comes from slow‑grown northern stock with tight, even grain and high heartwood content. Both are factory‑finished with two coats of either water‑based paint or translucent stain, so they leave the factory weather‑ready — no site sealing required.

Best Suited For

Where timber is the right answer.

  • Period homes — Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian — where the original windows were timber.
  • Protected structures and conservation work where a conservation officer needs to see solid timber.
  • High‑end new builds where the architect has specified natural materials throughout the interior.
  • Rural and heritage properties where the visual continuity with traditional joinery matters.

Typical cost guidance

Timber sits at the upper end of the window market in Ireland. Expect a meaningful premium over uPVC and aluminium reflecting the material cost, the joinery time and the factory finishing process. Worth specifying where the look, the heritage approval or the spec demands it.

SEAI grants of up to €4,000 are available for windows (detached). Wright will confirm SEAI Registered Contractor arrangements at quote stage.

Why Wright

Joiners by trade — since 1969.

Wright started in 1969 supplying doors and stairs to local builders. Timber joinery is in the DNA of the business. Three generations later, we still cut, mortise and fit‑up every timber window at the same Milltownpass factory. If you’re replacing windows in a period or protected property and want to talk to a manufacturer who understands the brief, ring us.

Timber Windows FAQ

Common Questions

Will my timber windows need painting every few years?

No — not on the cycle that timber windows used to demand. Our timber windows leave the factory with two coats of either water‑based opaque paint or translucent stain, applied under controlled conditions. With normal exposure that finish typically holds for 8–12 years before any recoat is needed, and even then it’s a recoat rather than a strip‑and‑repaint.

What U-values do Wright timber windows achieve?

Double‑glazed timber windows achieve U‑values as low as 1.2 W/m²K. Triple‑glazed timber achieves U‑values as low as 0.84 W/m²K — SEAI grant eligible.

Hardwood or Scandinavian Pine — which should I choose?

Hardwood is denser, harder‑wearing and the traditional choice for sash windows. Scandinavian Pine is slow‑grown with tight grain and a high heartwood content — lighter, slightly easier on the budget and an excellent choice for casements. Both are appropriate for period restoration; the right choice usually comes down to what was there originally.

Are timber windows allowed on protected structures?

In most cases, yes — timber is the preferred material on protected structures and is usually accepted without difficulty by conservation officers. Always check with your local authority before ordering. We’ll provide drawings and section detail for the application.

What if I want a timber look without the maintenance?

Two options. Our aluclad range has a timber interior with an aluminium weather skin outside — you keep the warm timber look indoors. Our R9 Legacy composite system is engineered to replicate 19th‑century timber proportions exactly with no maintenance at all.

How long does timber window installation take?

Manufacturing lead times for timber are typically longer than uPVC or aluminium because of the joinery and factory finishing time — ring for current timelines. Physical installation of a full house typically takes 2–4 days, with the home kept weather‑tight throughout.
