Our Flagship Window · Official Irish Supplier
R9 Legacy
A composite flush‑sash window that looks like 19th‑century timber and performs like 21st‑century engineering. NSAI‑certified U‑values down to 0.8 W/m²K. Hand‑built at our Westmeath factory. Wright is the official Irish supplier and installer.
R9 Legacy — The Residence 9 collection — is the original timber‑alternative window. It’s a composite flush‑sash system designed from the ground up to replicate the proportions and detail of 19th‑century timber windows, while delivering modern thermal performance, security and zero maintenance.
Wright Windows is the official Irish supplier and installer. We don’t resell R9 — we build it. Every R9 Legacy window in Ireland is hand‑assembled at our Milltownpass factory in Co. Westmeath, glazed with your choice of 28mm double or 44mm triple units, foiled in your choice of nine heritage finishes, and fitted by our own installation team. If you’ve been told you need timber windows for a heritage property, or you’re building a new home that needs to look classic but perform to PassivHaus standards, R9 Legacy is the answer.

Why R9 Wins on Look
Engineered to fool a conservation officer.
Most uPVC sash windows give themselves away with a chunky overlap, plastic putty line and mitred corners. R9 doesn’t. The 100mm frame depth matches the proportions of a 19th‑century timber sash exactly. The corners are mechanically butt‑jointed, not mitred, mirroring traditional timber joinery. The external chamfer mimics a putty line. The internal beading carries genuine decorative mouldings — no other system in this category has them.
When the window opens, the rebate is foiled in the same finish as the exterior — so there’s no jarring white plastic edge. The result: a window that reads as timber from the street, and stays that way for thirty‑plus years.
Why R9 Wins on Performance
Heritage looks, modern engineering.
A traditional timber sash gives you U‑values around 1.4–1.6 W/m²K, repaint every five to eight years, and the constant possibility of rot. A standard uPVC sash gives you a noticeable plastic look and warps in summer heat. R9 Legacy gives you a triple‑glazed U‑value of 0.8 W/m²K (PassivHaus territory), a 9‑chamber profile that out‑insulates anything in its class, and a composite frame that doesn’t need painting, ever.
For new builds chasing A‑rated BER targets, R9 Legacy delivers a window energy rating of A++ when triple glazed. For period refurbishments where a conservation officer is involved, it’s the only flush‑sash composite system that has been accepted on planning‑controlled properties.

Finishes
Nine Heritage Colours, Foiled Inside and Out
Each colour is a deep foil — the rebate is finished too, so when the window opens there’s no white plastic edge breaking the look. Specify a different colour inside and out if you like.
Built In
What Comes Standard
Mechanical butt-jointed corners
R9 corners are mechanically butt‑jointed in the same way a traditional timber joiner would frame a sash — no mitred plastic look. The 9‑chamber profile sits flush at the corner; the joint reads as timber from any angle.
Multi-point locking + Document Q-rated
Standard multi‑point locking on every opening sash, with internal beading and exceeding PAS 24 security specification. Meets UK Document Q new‑build security requirement.
NSAI-certified U-values
Triple‑glazed R9 Legacy is NSAI‑certified to a U‑value of 0.8 W/m²K — the threshold for PassivHaus and the best result you can buy in this category.
Authentic timber proportions
100mm frame depth designed to match 19th‑century timber sash proportions exactly. Chamfered putty line external detail. Decorative internal mouldings — no other composite system carries these.
Foiled rebate, foiled both sides
The rebate (the bit you see when the window is open) is foiled in the same finish as the exterior. Different colours inside and out are also available — specify cream interior, anthracite exterior, for example.
Custom shapes available
Arched, angled and irregular openings made to order. We can match the existing reveal of a Georgian or Victorian property exactly — including arched fanlights.
Built in Ireland
Why Wright is the only Irish supplier — and why that matters.
R9 Legacy is a UK‑designed system. The profile is extruded in Wiltshire and shipped to Ireland for assembly. We are the only manufacturer in Ireland approved to assemble, glaze and install R9 Legacy windows — we’ve been doing it since the system launched here.
That means: when you order an R9 from Wright, it doesn’t come from a dealer with a markup. It’s built by our team in Westmeath, glazed to your spec, foiled in your chosen finish, and fitted by our own installation crew. One company — design conversation to final fit — with the manufacturer answering the phone afterwards.

R9 Legacy FAQ
Common Questions
Is R9 Legacy approved for conservation / planning-controlled properties?
Generally, yes — R9 Legacy is the only composite flush‑sash system specifically engineered to replicate 19th‑century timber proportions, including 100mm frame depth, chamfered putty‑line detail, decorative internal mouldings and mechanically butt‑jointed corners. It’s been accepted on planning‑controlled refurbishment work where standard uPVC sash would be refused. Always check with your local conservation officer; we’ll provide drawings and spec sheets for the application.
What U-values does R9 Legacy achieve?
With 28mm double glazing, R9 Legacy achieves a U‑value of 1.2 W/m²K (Window Energy Rating ‘A’). With 44mm triple glazing, R9 Legacy achieves an NSAI‑certified U‑value as low as 0.8 W/m²K (Window Energy Rating ‘A++’) — PassivHaus compliant. The exact value depends on overall window size and glazing spec.
How does R9 Legacy compare to standard uPVC sash windows?
R9 Legacy is a flush‑sash composite system, not standard uPVC. The frame depth is 100mm vs typical uPVC at 70mm, the corners are mechanically butt‑jointed instead of mitred, the system has 9 internal chambers vs typical 4–5, and the rebate is foiled. Visually, R9 reads as timber; standard uPVC sash reads as plastic. Thermally, R9 triple‑glazed (0.8) outperforms standard uPVC sash (1.2–1.4). The price reflects that — expect a premium over standard uPVC sash, but well below true timber.
Can I have different colours inside and out?
Yes — dual‑colour finishes are a standard option. Common combinations: anthracite exterior with cream interior; Irish Oak exterior with grained white interior; English Oak both sides. The rebate is foiled in your chosen exterior finish, so there’s no white plastic edge visible when the window opens.
How long does an R9 Legacy installation take?
From quote acceptance, expect a manufacturing lead time of a few weeks (it varies by season — ring for current timelines). Physical installation of a full house of R9 windows typically takes 2–4 days depending on the number of openings, with the house kept weather‑tight throughout. For period properties with non‑standard openings we may need to template on‑site first, which adds a few days.
Does R9 Legacy qualify for the SEAI grant?
Yes — R9 Legacy’s NSAI‑certified U‑values comfortably meet the SEAI Home Energy Upgrade thresholds for windows. The grant requires the installer to be a SEAI Registered Contractor — contact us to confirm current arrangements for your project.
