Windows & Doors in Portlaoise

Portlaoise is one of the fastest-growing commuter towns in Ireland — and Wright Windows is the manufacturer 55km north on the M7. A-rated uPVC, aluminium and R9 Legacy made in Milltownpass, fitted across Sand Wood, Dargan Woods, An Lochán and the wider Laois belt.

Portlaoise has reshaped itself around the M7 and the Dublin commute. A 48-minute Heuston train, a 5-minute drive to the motorway, and the Dublin commuter belt has effectively absorbed the town — the largest in Co. Laois, with hundreds of new homes in active development. Recent and approved schemes include Sand Wood at Summerhill (202 units across Phases 2–4), Dargan Woods off the Borris Road (94 homes underway and 160 more proposed), the An Lochán affordable scheme on Stradbally Road, Collier’s Lane (88 homes), the Mountmellick Road N80 site (74 units), and the Harpurs Crescent / Maltings / Goldencroft / Mount Stewart cluster (252 units opened across Laois).

Wright Windows manufactures for that whole pipeline from our Milltownpass factory, 55km north. Every uPVC, aluminium, aluclad and R9 Legacy unit is built in Westmeath and fitted by our own crew. Whether you’re re-windowing a 1980s estate house off the Dublin Road, specifying for a new build at Sand Wood, or restoring a period property on Main Street, the same family-run business handles the brief, the build and the install.

55 km

Milltownpass to Portlaoise — about 45 minutes

From the factory at Junction 5 of the M6 we run east briefly, then south down the M7 — one of the easiest motorway commutes we make. Portlaoise sits at Junction 17. Comfortable for same-day surveys, scheduled deliveries and snag-list returns.

What We Install in Portlaoise

Commuter-belt new builds, estate re-windows, town-centre period work.

New-build supply — Sand Wood, Dargan Woods, An Lochán. The current build pipeline is being delivered A-rated. We supply main contractors with large-format aluminium picture windows, tilt & turns and lift-and-slide or bi-fold patio doors, and uPVC casements for the more affordable price points. U-values down to 0.7 W/m²K on triple-glazed uPVC, 0.8 W/m²K on aluminium — well inside SEAI Home Energy Grant territory.

Estate re-windows — Borris Road, Dublin Road, Stradbally Road. The 1980s, 1990s and 2000s estates around the town are due full-house re-windowing — typically 10–14 A-rated uPVC casements with a composite or uPVC entrance door, often a patio door swap to the rear. 2–4 days on site, kept weather-tight throughout.

Town-centre period replacement — R9 Legacy & sliding sash. The 19th-century terraced stock around Main Street, Market Square and the old town core needs flush-sash sightlines. Our R9 Legacy composite flush-sash is engineered to replicate 19th-century timber proportions; traditional sliding sash is available in uPVC, aluclad or solid timber.

One-off rural builds across Laois. We supply self-builders across the county — Mountmellick, Stradbally, Abbeyleix, Mountrath, Ballyroan. Aluclad is a regular pick for exposed sites; uPVC casement for the more straightforward replacements.

Why Portlaoise Chooses Wright

An Irish manufacturer 55km up the M7.

Manufacturer, not reseller

You’re buying direct from a 1969 Westmeath manufacturer — not through a Dublin reseller, not from a UK-system franchise. Cleaner margin, traceable build, honest answers from the factory.

Built for the commuter-belt new builds

The Sand Wood, Dargan Woods and An Lochán developments are being delivered A-rated. Our uPVC and aluminium ranges are sized and certified for exactly this kind of high-spec new-build pipeline — including SEAI-grant ready U-values.

Our own installation team

Austin, Max, Frank, Declan — named Wright employees, not subcontracted day-rate fitters. They survey, build and install the same job, and they’re back at the factory at the end of the week.
