Custom Shaped Windows

Arched, triangular, circular, angled or hexagonal — if the opening isn’t a rectangle, we still make the window. Site‑templated and built to spec at our Westmeath factory.

Not every opening is a rectangle. Period villas have arched fanlights above front doors. Mid‑century moderns have triangular gable lights. Contemporary builds use circular oculi as architectural punctuation. Custom shape doesn’t have to mean custom price — it just means a template, a setup, and a slightly longer lead time.

Wright Windows fabricates custom‑shaped windows in‑house at Milltownpass. We template the existing reveal on site, agree the design with you, and build the unit to match. Arched, angled, triangular, trapezoidal, circular, half‑round, segmental — we’ve made the lot, in uPVC, aluminium, timber and aluclad.

The Shape Palette

Any shape, made properly.

The most common requests we build are arched fanlights (above Georgian and Victorian front doors), triangular gable lights (mid‑century and contemporary apex glazing), and circular or half‑round oculi (architectural feature windows). Trapezoidal and angled shapes for vaulted ceilings are also routine.

For curved profiles — arched, segmental, full‑round — the frame is bent or formed during fabrication, not just mitred from straight extrusion. That keeps the curve true and the seal continuous. We’ll site‑template the exact opening before we cut anything.

Why Custom

Key Benefits

  • Built to the opening, not the opening rebuilt to the window. Keep original arched and angled features in period properties.
  • Same thermal spec as our standard frames. Triple glazing, low‑E, A‑rated.
  • All materials available. uPVC, aluminium, timber and aluclad — including R9 Legacy for conservation work.
  • Mixed compositions. Pair a curved or arched fanlight above a rectangular opener in the same frame.
  • Site templated. We measure the reveal directly — no guesswork from a drawing.

Custom Shape FAQ

Common Questions

Do I pay more for a custom‑shaped window?

Yes — there’s a setup and template charge on top of the rectangular price for the equivalent glass area, because curved or angled profile requires bending or specialist mitring during fabrication. We’ll quote the exact uplift before you commit.

Can I keep the original arched fanlight above my front door?

Yes — that’s a routine job for us. We site‑template the existing arched opening, fabricate an arched fanlight to match the profile exactly, and fit it as part of the door installation. In R9 Legacy or hardwood timber, the fanlight reads as period‑authentic from the street.

How long does a custom shape take to make?

Typically a couple of weeks longer than a rectangular spec, because the profile has to be bent, cut and assembled on a dedicated jig. We’ll give you a firm lead time at quote stage. Site templating happens early in the process, so the manufacturing slot is reserved before measuring.

Are custom shapes as energy efficient as standard rectangles?

Yes — the glazing, frame profile and weather seals are identical to our standard rectangular windows. U‑values are the same: from 0.7 W/m²K (uPVC triple) up to 0.84 W/m²K (timber/aluclad triple).

Got an unusual opening? We’ll make the window.

Send us a photo and rough dimensions and we’ll come back with a feasibility and indicative price. Site templating is included in every custom quote.
